I am going to be incapacitated for a bit because of Monday’s surgery and so I have asked someone who is not just my very dear friend but my colleague as well, Friar Jeffrie L Wallace who lives in Scotland, if I might be able to share a few of his writings with you for the next few days. And “Thank You Jesus”, he has agreed. So sit back and read and enjoy these words from a man who truly lives one of the most God centered lives of almost anyone I can think of!

….SHOEBOXES……
~
written 07/22/2012
~
Hello again…..
~

Wanted to talk about “Shoeboxes”…

~

No, not the kind actual footwear come in, but the SPIRITUAL kind…the kind of person who keeps their faith in a ‘shoebox’ and only uses it when it is convenient for THEM.

~

Faith, like ANYTHING spiritual, MUST be used EVERY DAY….not JUST on Holy Days, or Sabbath Days.

~

It should surround EVERY ASPECT of your life, encompassing ALL that you do.

~

When Jesus preached, He did not just preach monday to friday…He did not say “Only preach to those of the faith”…no….He said in Mark 2:15-17 WHY we need to be models for others…

~

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax  collectors and “sinners” were eating with him and his disciples, for  there were many who followed him.

~

When  the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the  “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat  with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?”

~

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

~

If, as Christians, we associate ONLY with Christians, and preach ONLY with Christians, how are we doing what Our Lord said to do???

~

It is all fine and good to preach about God, Heaven, Salvation, and Redemption…but to WHOM are we preaching it to???

~

Matthew 5:46-47 TELLS us as Christians that our faith is supposed to be encompassing EVERYONE around us…to help them SEE that WE are deserving of our reward, and that if THEY TOO decide that this way of faith is GOOD for them as well, then they too can gain reward…

~

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

~

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

~

Our tolerance of others faiths and to show mercy, love, and gentleness is what the CORE of our faith is ALL ABOUT.  We cannot “bash” others with our faith..but rather, GENTLY nudge them…show them the goodness, love, and understanding Jesus showed even to the Centurion!

~

When in the Garden, and Peter cut off the ear of the soldier, Jesus HEALED the soldier…one of those sent to arrest and persecute Him! Does this not also mean that WE, as His followers, should show TOLERANCE and MERCY to those who see us as overbearing, domineering….even MILITANT?

~

No, Jesus preached LOVE…as is directed by Him in Mark 12:28-31, that we should LOVE our God with EVERYTHING we are…and LOVE OUR FELLOW MAN….that does not mean JUST the Christians, or JUST the Hebrews, or JUST the Muslims….EVERYONE.

~

So,  by not keeping our faith in a “shoebox” but by PROUDLY displaying ALL the attributes a GOOD CHRISTIAN should, we will win more hearts and people than by looking DOWN our noses at them for not believing in what WE believe in….

~

Ok…I am off of my soapbox for now…LOL..

Peace be with you….

~

13) No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

1) And they walked in the midst of the fire, praising God, and blessing the Lord. 2) Then Azarias stood up, and prayed on this manner; and opening his mouth in the midst of the fire said, 3) Blessed art thou, O Lord God of our fathers: thy name is worthy to be praised and glorified for evermore: 4) For thou art righteous in all the things that thou hast done to us: yea, true are all thy works, thy ways are right, and all thy judgments truth.
