Bridging The Gap!
Three things are necessary for the salvation of man: to know what he ought to believe; to know what he ought to desire; and to know what he ought to do.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. Perhaps the most powerful verse of any that appear in all of the recognized versions of the Bible. So powerful, in fact, that the words of this verse are nearly identical in all of the versions that are in use today! And when He created man, God and man were as one…..of one mind and of one heart! Until that fateful moment when succumbing to temptation forever changed that fact. And ever since that day, the heart of man was one of rebellion against the one who most deserved his adoration and devotion, dividing man from forever regaining God’s favor! The schism was there….as deep, and as wide and as impossible to measure as it is to measure the distance to the ends of the universe! Sin! Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
But God was not content with the state between Himself and the being He had molded in His own image and had breathed life into lungs from His very lips! Yes there must be a way to bridge the gap between He and man…the gap that sin had created! But what to do? It would need to be a very special intervention if it were to allow the sinful creature that was man the possibility of Salvation. And in time, seeing evidence that man contained within himself, the potential to be redeemed, the decision was made to send to earth a tiny being, conceived with His very own seed, who would be the first human born since man’s emergence in the garden, pure and untainted by the sin that the moment of temptation forever etched on his soul. But while the birth of that tiny baby was significant, it would be the death of the grown man that the baby would become, that would bridge that schism! Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
We are all given this gift not by asking for it or by paying for it to happen. No, we are given this gift by faith, and faith alone! Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” But, we must prove the merit of our faith by our very actions in the life we lead every day. In other words, our head must understand and our mouth profess that which our heart knows is right and moral and good. And the acknowledging of that faith is as simple as reciting a prayer to God admitting the sin that the human part of us all is guilty of and then asking for forgiveness. But even if you have trouble saying the words, God still knows because there is nothing that the mind can envision that is hidden from His eye!
Our Gracious Heavenly Father,
I come to you as a human being and as a sinner. I come to you because I know you sent your son to earth for the purpose of dying for my sins. I now ask for your forgiveness for my sins and I open my heart to you and your promise of salvation. In return, I promise to live my life following the example that has been gifted to me by the actions and teachings of your son and my savior, Jesus Christ!
I ask these things of you in His name,
38) Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39) The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

During this most blessed season of the year, please remember the millions of our brothers and sisters who continue to suffer from the effects of Superstorm Sandy. Give as much as you can, as often as you can to the following group. Your gift might just mean a family who has lost everything might just have something to smile about this Christmas!
