Thought For The Day 04/17/13

When He Brings You To It…..

Bent but not broken

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle.

The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.

Ayn Rand

How often have you been pushed to the breaking point? Ask me if I have been and I am likely to forgo words….something so very atypical for me, as you well know. Instead, you might just find me painting a bulls-eye on my forehead. As a matter of fact, it seems as if I have used gallons of red paint over my nearly 59 years of life. But if there is one thing to learn from our dodging those slings and arrows, it is that while reaching the breaking point proves that we are all too human, surviving to tell the tale proves that we are all stronger than we might ever have believed. And if we are, I believe it is less the result of strength of our own making, but instead, it is because of God’s ever watchful eye and guiding hand to our back, leading us through the minefield.

Faith in God’s power does not just happen. It is given to us in a tiny first dose….a seed, if you will, planted within the blueprint of matter that will become each human soul. For some, that seed will never grow and bear fruit. Those are the people whose faces we glimpse, dark and hidden in the shadows, in our worst nightmares. However, for most of us, that seed does takes root. But it is not fertile loam that is the womb that nurtures, protects and feeds the seed, nudging it to take root and grow. Rather, it is the wisdom we gain from the trials we face as we live each day. It is this way that our faith is made sure and our resources are brought to bear, so that we do not just survive our trials, but thrive because of them.

If we find ourselves confused as we face those trials, take comfort in the knowledge that greater minds than mine, certainly….people closer God’s ear than most of us can ever hope to be, struggled in understanding His reasoning for why things happen the way they do. The prophet Isaiah said, in Isaiah 55: 8-9 NET, as he was trying to comprehend God’s ways: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

What God chooses for our lives is not random nor is it a haphazard attempt at controlling our every move. What He gives us is given because He does understand that we can not become all that we are capable of becoming without those trials and tribulations. It is as we overcome all the adversity that comes our way that we become stronger and our resolve grows to see life and the way we interact with everyone else, in a new way….a way that assures us that we are seeing and living life with our hearts and souls and not just our eyes and our minds!

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

James 1:2-4 NLT
