Thought For The Day 05/02/13

What Lurks In The Shadows

Doubters do not achieve; skeptics do not contribute; cynics do not create. Faith is the great motive power, and no man realizes his full possibilities unless he has the deep conviction that life is eternally important, and that his work, well done, is a part of an unending plan.

Calvin Coolidge

Any person who has ever been seriously ill has an intimate knowledge of life somewhere in the misty shadows of doubt and question. Will this kill me? Can I recover? And it is that all too human part of our mind that seems to take a hold, sometimes even taking over,  any shred of that rational part of us where our faith dwells. And while there are some for whom the certainty of God’s plan remains clear, most of us are not quite as fortunate.

Most of us are the ones whose thoughts begin to morph into the negative’s of all things. Yes, it happens to me, despite the fact that I know with my entire being that what is happening serves Him regardless whether it serves me or not! But doubt is a powerful foe. Once we allow it to gain a foothold, it becomes pervasive and all-encompassing, just as the single seed of a weed can take over an entire lawn, in the blink of an eye!

Make no mistake. Doubt is not a blessing of God’s giving. It is an infection from the devil himself, meant to steal us away from our faith and trust in Him! But Satan holds no power over us if we willingly go to the Lord and place with Him for safekeeping, our hearts…complete with all the fear and doubt that dwells there. And just as surely as He can and will banish Satan and His minion from earth for all time (Revelation 12:9 NIV, “The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”), so will He provide us with the strength to look those fears and doubt square in the eye, and banish them from our lives for all time, as well!

So remember to exercise your faith and give it the muscle it needs to help you with your inner demons.  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 NIV. Open your mind to God and the things He promises to us, through the gift and sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. Do not let your hearts be troubled, because what it is He wants for us, is to have the blessings of peace and contentment, because we know and trust in Him!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”

John 14:27 NIV
