“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.”

Jodi Picoult

They were as different as night and day.

___

One was a Mediterranean beauty with dark eyes and a beautiful sun-kissed bronze glow.

The other was a fair-skinned and blue-eyed all American beauty of European descent.

One was born around the time of World War I.

The other was a teen during World War II and lost her only sibling, her brother, during that war.

One was the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters and who helped her mother raise the youngest, born not many years away from the day she would be married herself.

The other was the youngest and who became an only child the day her brother’s plane was lost over the Black Sea.

One graduated from High School in an age when to be able to lay claim to this was not very common.

The other graduated college and discovered her passion for teaching and children would become her lifelong pursuit.

One would struggle for many, many years before she herself would discover motherhood, and that occurred when she decided to carry his first-born in her heart instead of in her body!

The other would deliver her oldest just a few short years from the day she married.

Both found what would be a lifetime of happiness with their very own Prince Charming!

Neither would meet until fate intervened and the first meeting would best be described as a scene from “My Big Fat English Italian Wedding”!

They had nothing in common except for one thing…….Dan and Mandy (me)! The circle of life was being written anew when boy met girl in November of 1972. And yet what followed was a new chapter in what would prove to be the greatest years for them both. Grand-Parenthood! And even today, the best part of the two of them live on in the sparkle of shiny blue eyes of a tiny, redheaded little bundle of energy. Neither of them were blessed with the opportunity of meeting their great-grandchild, Landon, but he is the legacy they each left the world! And the circle of life continues!

“A Mother’s Prayer”

written by: David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager.

performed by: Celine Dion

~

I pray you’ll be my eyes
And watch her where she goes
And help her to be wise
Help me to let go
~
Every mother’s prayer
Every child knows
Lead her to a place
Guide her with your grace
To a place where she’ll be safe
~
I pray she finds your light
And holds it in her heart
As darkness falls each night
Remind her where you are
~
Every mother’s prayer
Every child knows
Need to find a place
Guide her to a place
Give her faith so she’ll be safe
~
Lead her to a place
Guide her with your grace
To a place where she’ll be safe
