Thought For The Day 10/14/13

Monday With Mandy

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

John Quincy Adams

The other day I was thinking about “Tuesdays With Morrie”. Now for those of you who do not know about this piece of literary brilliance, this is an autobiographical book written by fellow New Jersey native Mitch Albom, who is a news journalist with the Detroit Free Press, and whose themes of inspiration weave through nearly all of his pieces!

Now while many can readily identify the one “older and wiser” person in their life who helped them to find themselves as they grew into adulthood, usually it is a relative or close family friend. But for Mitch Albom, it was a college professor by the name of Morrie Schwartz. And like most people in our lives, the actual time they spend weaving their magic is all too brief, often underappreciated at the time, and sometimes even fading into the same nether-world where our dreams seek safe haven during our waking moments. But when Mitch rediscovers this mentor as Morrie’s living is winding down, the pair rekindle what once was, on Tuesday mornings. And just as it once had, the spirit of love and wisdom and magic returns.

Now I am not implying that today, your “Monday With Mandy” is anything akin to the mentorship shared by Mitch and Morrie. I lack the wisdom to create this type of special magic. No, what I ask is that you all take a moment because of this post, to reap the benefits of a mentorship with God! And I mean it when I say mentorship, because just as it was with Mitch and Morrie, it is what you will bring to the conversation, such as a willingness to discover, a heart that is open and a hunger to partake of the wonders of His gift of grace and promise of salvation, that will allow you to benefit the most from this opportunity of communion with Him! Think of the words shared in 2 Peter 3:18 KJV, But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Do we deserve this special opportunity? Well that is up to each of us to decide. You see, His grace is wholly undeserved, and yet it is bestowed freely to each of us. It doesn’t matter what age, sex, color or yes, even what faith we are. You see, it was the death of the Son that gave this gift to EVERYONE! But whether we choose to sit down and share our morning coffee with God and our faith…..well, that remains ours to decide. God gives to us the miracle of life, and He gives to us the miracle of choice. It is up to us to choose how it is we will find our way to heaven!

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Revelation 3:20 RSV
