“It’s not happy people who are thankful, it’s thankful people who are happy.”

I was thinking yesterday how grateful I am for so many things in my life. And it was then that I realized how true a quote I had heard many years ago was true. Yes,”It’s not happy people who are thankful, it’s thankful people who are happy”. And I realized how completely and utterly euphoric I feel right now. You see, my hubby came through a very serious operation for a condition that, if left unchecked, could have been fatal! And I prayed. Lord knows, I said perhaps a hundred prayers over those 6 days…especially the first few when we were working to discover what was wrong. But it was the moment that I sat simply thinking about why I needed my husband to get well, that was the moment He heard my unspoken prayers. Yes I knew his blessings were there for me to grasp and draw close to my heart! And while we are not out of the woods yet, I realized that I am completely happy because I know God answered my prayers…those said and those simply thought. Psalm 24:5  ESV says it best. “He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”

The miracle of life is that we can multiply exponentially some of the things we face. Gratefulness is one of these blessings. Gratefulness brings fullness to the life we live. If you are grateful for what you already have, the world will conspire to give you more to be grateful for. If you are resentful of what you already have, the world will conspire to give you more to resent. But we must always remember that we have total control how we will face these choices. However I also believe that not all people listen and heed the signals to live a grateful life., which is why I am sharing a few pointers that I found in a post written by Leslie Fieger.

  • All this, and more, happens when you choose to hold and to express gratefulness for what you have and what you claim or expect to have as you journey through life.
  • Begin each day with an expression of your gratitude for all the blessings that life has bestowed upon you and your day will be filled with even more and greater blessings.
  • The choice is yours. Every breath you breathe can be an expression of gratitude. Existing in a state of gratefulness is very alike existing in a state of grace.
  • Being grateful denotes your knowledge of, and application of, one of the most important aspects of creation…who you are and how you are produces what you have. And, of course, makes what you have all that much more en-JOY-able.

So live your life the best that you can and be grateful for all of your blessings. And if you are someone who is struggling because of circumstances beyond your control, stop for a moment and think about what you do have instead of perseverating on what you don’t. Every life can lay claim to something positive that colors the world of that person. Identify what it is and focus on making that blessing grow. Suddenly the bad seems less ominous and it may even transform some of those other negatives in your life, into something wonderful!

“That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies”

Genesis 22:17 KJV
