As a widow, I find the words of Isaiah 54 to be the most tender in all of scripture. My Maker is my husband, the Lord of Hosts and my Redeemer. With great mercies He will gather me; with everlasting kindness He will have mercy on me. The covenant of His peace rests on me. But even more precious than the promises of His care for me, is His declaration, “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children” (v. 13).
In the rare moments when I screamed why to God’s face, it was on behalf of my children. Why couldn’t You let them know the love of an earthly father?
