Thought For The Day 05/01/14

Life is like a game of cards.  The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.

Jawaharlal Nehru

Have you ever wondered just what life would be like if the word choice were somehow removed from not just our dictionary, but from human understanding, as well? It seems to me like we would be no more than living, breathing androids.

We would never know the satisfaction of a job well done or the joy to be found in tousling the hair of a child. We would not know the passion that comes from holding the one we love close  nor the heartache of loss. In other words, we would be missing out on the very essence of God’s greatest endowment to humankind when He mapped out the sequence of genes that would become man.

God recognized that man, to be not just satisfied but a content human being, as well, would need to choose the direction for his life without external forces dictating those decisions. God knew that not even He should prevent us from making the choices that we do as we live every day.

He knew that developing spirit filled lives of character could only come about through choice. And it is through this choice that we experience and understand the emotions of good versus evil and eternal life versus eternal damnation. Perhaps this is also one reason God gave us finite life spans.

We are granted the time we need to live, learn and understand the wisdom He has to give, and we are also allowed the opportunity to impart these teachings to future generations. And once we do, our work is done. However, should we choose the dark path in life, our finite life also limits the time we spend on earth, perpetrating evil! After all, God knows not all of his children will choose the righteous path. However, the vast majority will and God wants us to fulfill His will by our own choice.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
