NO! Not Pudding!
“Putting” GOD First!

The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him.

I saw a church sign today which had this statement on it…… “The Proof Is In The Putting!” And I began to wonder why this particular church put this reminder out front for all the world to see. Then, suddenly, I realized that we all need an occasional kick in the pants to remind us about what the important things are in life.
Yes, each of us as well as our families rank right up at the top of the list of important things in life. After all, if we fail to take care of ourselves and our immediate loved ones, both physically, mentally and emotionally, then we will not have the where with all to give the very best of us to the Almighty. And yet, if we do not keep God as the most important part of our heart and lives, the part of us that is left over…..the part that we share with the ones we love, becomes lacking, as if no matter how hard we try, to grasp the thing becomes more and more like trying to catch and hold onto a cloud! Yes, it seems like we fail to honor him more often that we even realize.
___
How often do we find ourselves disobeying Him? More often than not, we seem to be able to come up with a million excuses  to somehow justify this disobedience. And yet, if we truly think about it, don’t those excuses we manage to come up with, each have a hollow ring to them? How often have we thought, as soon as the words passed our lips, that we have somehow, disappointed Him? And yet, human frailties aside, if we understand our relationship with Him, and understand how much He loves us, what reason is there to disobey?
___
Do we take the time to say, “Thank you!” to Him? When we accomplish some tremendous feat, we rush to share the news with our families and friends. And yet, is it not God that is responsible for providing us with the skill set that allowed us to accomplish what we did? Who gave us our intelligence? Who gave us determination? Who gave us the particular talents we each have been gifted with? Why is it that we fail to invite Him into our homes and our hearts, and, even more importantly, why do we fail to say thank you to Him?
___
Are you someone who tends to think the world revolves around you and not the other way around? Admit it….we are all guilty of thinking this way at some time or another. And yet, when our whole life becomes only about “numero uno”, we fail to honor God! Our life can not be singularly focused. You see, our life impacts every single person who comes into contact with us, whether that person is a family member or a total stranger.
Think about the person in the grocery line behind you. If you are angry about something, this anger is evident to everyone else nearby who sees your face or hears the things you say. But just smile at that stranger and more likely than not, you will see their face light up, even without a single word being exchanged!
___
Do we share what we know about the Lord with others? Did not Jesus tell us to become fishers of men? We all have some special gift which can be used to honor and glorify Him and yet, do we?
___
Not every one can go door to door, spreading the good word, nor are we all prepared to travel to 3rd world countries, as missionaries. And yet we can all do something right here at home. When you volunteer to help those less fortunate, you honor him! When you become involved in a cause that benefits your community, you honor him! When you do have the opportunity to speak of and share your blessings with others, you honor Him! Jesus said In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

___

Yes indeed, the proof is in the “putting”, and for sure we all need that little nudge every now and then to remind us of this. So consider yourselves nudged!

___

So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today – to love the LORD your God and to serve him will all your heart and with all your soul – then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil. I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.

Deuteronomy 11 : 13-15 NIV
