Faith enables persons to be persons because it lets God be God.

What will be will be. Sounds like a really easy and simple philosophy for moving through life, doesn’t it? Well, in fact, traveling through life is anything but easy and it is most certainly not simple! To be honest, I think it has been made that way deliberately by our Heavenly Father. You see, if life and living that life was easy for us, there would be no reason for us to ever choose to turn to Him when we are troubled. In fact, we would also have no reason to turn our lives over to Him as part of what I have come to know as our very necessary spiritual partnership with God. That is what I see as understanding what is His will for our lives, and then asking of Him help when we need it the most. But how often can we say with certainty that we really know what His will is for us?
___
Now I am no religious scholar, but as I see it,  God’s will is manifested to man in two ways. The first “will of God” is His “sovereign will” which is His absolute control over all that happens in our world. In other words, there is nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God’s influence and authority. As King of kings and Lord of lords, God has no limitations, despite man’s constant desire to view himself as the center of the universe! In Proverbs 16:1-4 NEV, this will is described far better than I can manage!  The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the LORD weighs the motives. Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established. The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil. Now the second “will of God” might best be described as His will of command. This is the will that teaches us what it is His expectations are for the way we lead our lives. And unlike “sovereign will” which precludes our capacity to effect change in His will, His “will of command” is the thing that we can choose to obey or disobey. That is what is described in Romans 1:2 NIV where we are told, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Seeking and searching! It seems to be what we as human beings do best! But think about those words and what they suggest. Seeking and searching in our contemporary language, suggests looking for something that is not there or can’t be seen. However, with faith, we know that there is nothing farther from the truth! Just look at Matthew 7:7 NIV, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  Why then do we continue the unceasing drive to search and exactly what is it that we want to find? Do we really want to find and do God’s will or do we really want God to do OUR will?

The Will of God

by Rebekah Nolt

Remember. The Will of God will never take you…
Where the grace of God cannot keep you,
Where the arms of God cannot support you,
Where the hands of God cannot mold you.
Where the power of God cannot endow you.

The will of God will never take you…
Where the spirit of God cannot work through you,
Where the riches of God cannot supply you,
Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you,
Where the army of God cannot protect you.

The will of God will never take you…
Where the love of God cannot enfold you,
Where the mercy of God cannot sustain you,
Where the Word of God cannot feed you,
Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you.

The will of God will never take you…
Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,
Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears,
Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,
Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

John 6:38-40 NIV
