God gives us dreams a size too big so that we can grow in them.

Last night was crystal clear and the stars in the sky positively glistened. Their brightness, color, and number seemed somehow different than I remembered and the thought occurred to me that I could not remember the last time I had really searched the heavens at night. Each glistening speck, so like our own sun, and yet so different. And as I looked, I could not help but wonder if some other world filled with life existed in the vastness of not only our own Milky Way but in the galaxies beyond. Perhaps, somewhere, billions and billions of light years away, some other life form was scanning the heavens too, and wondering exactly the same thing I was.

It is incomprehensible to me that God would ever create a universe so vast and then choose only one small, relatively insignificant planet to seed with life. In fact, in Hebrews 1:2 KJV, (God, who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets. Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds….) the Bible tells us that He made the worlds, implying that other planets exist and are capable of sustaining life. There are also some who believe that other beings in God’s heavenly kingdom are watching closely to see the outcome in the battle being waged here on Earth between God and Satan.

I am no philosopher nor am I an astronomer nor am I a great theologian. I am not privy to the mind of God nor His plans for planet Earth. The one thing I can state with certainty is that I am a witness to the ongoing battle between good and evil that faces all human beings in our world. But I am also a dreamer. I believe in God. I believe the greatness of His creations. And I am someone who will probably never look toward the night sky again without thinking about the possibility of other worlds formed by the hand of God and of other forms of life of His making!

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation.  It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green.

Throughout history man has witnessed first hand or read about the miracles attributed to the hand of the Almighty. From the parting of the Red Sea which allowed the children of Israel safe escape from Egypt’s advancing army, to the raising of Lazarus from the dead, to those 21st century miracles we witness, such as the curing of a person suffering from the cruel effects of a terminal disease, we seek to understand that for which the only explanation must be that it was the result of some divine intervention. And yet, when Moses wrote in Genesis 1:1 that “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” he summarized in one single sentence one of the most important miracles of all…..the miracle of creation!

I want everyone to close their eyes for just one moment and think about the feeling you got deep in the pit of your stomach the very first moment you shared the newly born life of one of God’s miracles of creation. Do you remember seeing that single, tiny, innocent taking that first breath or uttering the first noise to pass through a tiny mouth? Even people who have never been blessed with the miracle that is the birth of their own child have perhaps born witness to this once in a lifetime experience through another family member or perhaps through the birth of a beloved non human companion. Creation!

___

I was fortunate last week to be given a link for a video on You Tube that shows us first hand the very miracle of creation. I share the link for the video with you today. It is about 9 minutes long but I promise you that those 9 minutes will be the shortest you ever sat through. Once you are done viewing it, I defy any to say there is no God! For I believe it is truly the face of God we are seeing in every second of that piece!
