A Prayer For Today
The Exaltation of the Holy Cross
O God, who willed that your only begotten Son should undergo the Cross to save mankind, we pray that we who have known his mystery on earth may merit the grace of his redemption in heaven.
Jesus, bring the people you have redeemed by the wood of the cross to the glory of the resurrection.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Author of Today’s Reading
St John the Apostle
John the Apostle (Aramaic Yoħanna, Koine Greek Ἰωάννης) (c. AD 6 – c. 100) was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to The Bible. He was the son of Zebedee and Salome. His brother was James, son of Zebedee who was another of the Twelve Apostles. Christian tradition holds that he outlived the remaining apostles and that he was the only one not to die a martyr’s death. The Church Fathers consider him the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos, and the Beloved Disciple. The tradition of many Christian denominations holds that he is the author of several books of the New Testament.
Church tradition holds that John is the author of the Gospel of John and four other books of the New Testament — the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation. In the Gospel, authorship is internally credited to the disciple whom Jesus loved (“ο μαθητης ον ηγαπα ο Ιησους”) in John 20:2. John 21:24 claims that the Gospel of John is based on the written testimony of the “Beloved Disciple”. The authorship of some Johannine literature has been debated since about the year 200 AD. Some doubt that the “Gospel of John” was written by an individual named “John” (Ἰωάννης or יוחנן). Nevertheless, the notion of “John the Evangelist” exists, and is usually thought of as the same as the Apostle John.

Our Old Testament Reading
Numbers 21: 4-9 NJB
They left Mount Hor by the road to the Sea of Suph, to skirt round Edom. On the way the people lost patience.
They spoke against God and against Moses, ‘Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in the desert? For there is neither food nor water here; we are sick of this meagre diet.’
At this, God sent fiery serpents among the people; their bite brought death to many in Israel.
The people came and said to Moses, ‘We have sinned by speaking against Yahweh and against you. Intercede for us with Yahweh to save us from these serpents.’ Moses interceded for the people,
and Yahweh replied, ‘Make a fiery serpent and raise it as a standard. Anyone who is bitten and looks at it will survive.’
Moses then made a serpent out of bronze and raised it as a standard, and anyone who was bitten by a serpent and looked at the bronze serpent survived.

Dealing With Sin in the Church
No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of man; as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.

Hymn For Today
Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace
performed by Angelina
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love
Where there is injury your pardon Lord
And where there is doubt true faith in You
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is despair in life let me bring hope
Where there is darkness only light
And where there’s sadness ever joy
Oh Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul
Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
It is in giving to all man that we receive
And in dying that we are born to eternal lifeOh Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soulMake me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
It is in giving to all man that we receive
And in dying that we are born to eternal lifeMake me a channel of your peace
This video was filmed in the hometown of the great St. Francis in Assisi, Italy.
